Welcome back to face to face instruction. I look forward to having a solid year with everyone. Internship is a course designed to introduce you to the Extended Essay and allow you time to work on this independent piece that is required for the IB diploma.
We will spend time reading the Extended Essay guide to better understand the nature of the EE, the research process, the roles of students, mentors, and others in the EE, and to grasp the requirements for a successful EE in a subject of your choice. On day 1 we: Read syllabus Ask questions about the EE, TOK, CAS and the diploma Discuss grades in the class and reiterate the independent nature of the EE View Managebac Fill in the form for populating Managebac... Here is a timeline for your extended essay:
May 2021 - check in with your mentor (not official meeting, just see where you are, if you're happy with your topic still, what your plan is moving forward for research and writing; provide your mentor with specific details). August 2 - submit your draft to your mentor for commentary and feedback Sept. 1 - Sept. 24 - Have interim meeting with your mentor - review the EE guide for preparing for the interim meeting prior to meeting with your mentor. Oct - Dec. 17 - make revisions, edit, research, and complete your EE. Have occasional check-ins with your mentor as necessary. Dec. 17. - Final EE to mentor. No changes made after this submission. Jan. 5 2022 - Last day to submit final EE. No changes made after this submission. Feb. - March 18 - Have viva voce with mentor. Review EE guide to prepare for viva voce prior to having this final meeting. As always, if questions come up you should review the EE guide for specific details and guidance. 95= Thoughtful, honest reflection that indicates general curiosity, effort, and self-awareness. 90= Honest reflection that indicates some curiosity, effort, and/or self-awareness. 85-80= Honest reflection that technically answers the guiding questions; the purpose of the reflection seems to be mere completion. 75-70= Reflection that minimally reflects engagement in the research process, but addresses some of the guiding questions. 60-0= Minimal engagement with both research and this reflection is indicated; a lack of interest and care is expressed.
